A booklet to highlight the importance and diversity of Greater Bendigo’s $2.2 billion manufacturing industry was launched last week by Chair of Bendigo Manufacturing Group Neil Sammons and Greater Bendigo CEO Craig Niemann along with Alan and Margot Spalding from local furniture company success story Jimmy Possum who are featured on the cover.
City of Greater Bendigo CEO Craig Niemann said the booklet has been produced by the City of Greater Bendigo to reinforce the significance of the manufacturing sector to the region’s economy.
“Greater Bendigo has more than 400 manufacturers who generate an estimated 24% of the region’s economic output annually.”
“The City of Greater Bendigo, through its Business Development Unit, is committed to providing up-to-date and factual data that has relevance to existing businesses as well as potential new companies to Bendigo,” said Mr Niemann.
He said the latest booklet also highlights the importance of the mining sector which is currently undergoing a resurgence with the potential for further major investment in the future.
Neil Sammons, Chairman of the Bendigo Manufacturing Group said Bendigo’s manufacturing strength lies in its blend of small- medium enterprises operating in niche segments coupled with a diverse group of well known large manufacturers producing value-added goods for world markets.
“Our local manufacturing sector has a high degree of expertise as shown through their diversity and ingenuity in developing and applying new technologies. Several of our local manufacturers have recently won major contracts for work in Asia and the Middle East and this is testament to the success of our local sector,” Mr Sammons said.
The ‘Manufacturing and Mining Industries’ booklet was launched on Friday August 1, 2008 at the conclusion of the monthly meeting of Bendigo Manufacturing Group.
